Marjorie Perloff likes (our) poetry

Best practice for running a website includes keeping tabs on how many visitors come to the site, where from, for how long, etc. And, for purposes of validation, I check on these things. I see which contributions are been most widely read – like some VJ of S/N contemporary poetics.

Noticeably, Spanish and English readers consistently come to Marjorie Perloff’s “The Challenge of Language: Interview with Enrique Mallen,” from S/N I:1. M.P.’s information and frankness -her visions and frustrations- sustain this interview’s relevance.

I mention this not to compare one contribution’s popularity or value with any other. I mention this not because Marjorie Perloff needs validation, as I do. I mention this simply as a nod to how she says things, how she knows. She gets them, these poets, you poets.

Wei-senberg Theory

Kindly refrain from affecting this post.

Unaffectedness – that rare quality that can turn any dork cool.

When I first encountered Hannah Weiner, I judged she was a little bit that way: unaffected, herself, kind of weird, somewhat dorky, and very cool. She made me wonder, “Can unaffectedness be performed?”

Maybe those alternate, alternating interior influences of hers taught her how to ignore the imaginary reader, viewer, third party who’s always threateningly there to impress, affecting our experiment. Instead, she wrote what she wanted, how she wanted. Ironically, she did it by incorporating them.

We have her in SN I:3, translated by Rodrigo Flores. I’ve made the pdf available on her page: http://snnewworldpoetics.com/hannah-weiner/
